Eight Days Later
Sorry that we didnt write for so long, we were in Tasmania. Thats right Tasmania, it seems like just yesterday I found out that Tasmania was not just a Warner Bros. thing but a real place all together. Adam's smart like that. I mean I guess it's fair because I knew about Taz and he knows about Linear Algebraic Formulae... I'd say its an even trade.
Lets start from the beggining:
We went to Tassie with two girls, Jenn from the original plane ride (the 'original' plane... really you said that?) and an Irish girl Karen who Jenn met in her hostle.
Tassie Day 1: We are told that Tasmania is a lot cooler (temperature wise) than Melbourne and to expect pretty much pants weather. Which makes sense after all its as far south as you can go until you before you hit Antartica. So we get off the plane in Launceston and yeah... its 36 degrees. NOT COOL, in fact HOT. So I put on shorts, that was nice. Then we hired a car, ahh nuts they are out of cheapy cars, we have to get a nice Mitsubishi for the same price. (sweet car, see pics below) Launceseston is a very quiet little town, we stayed in a hostle above their loudest pub and met some new people who aren't really even worth mentioning. Good times
Tassie Day 2: We went to Cataract Gorge, it was absolutley brilliant (as Karen said about everything... literally) . Took a short hike and then got some icecream, mmmmm icecream. On a grassy patch by the patio of the icecream place was a kangaroo taking a lil nap (our first wild Kanagroo, his name is Hoppy... I comended Adam on his originality).
Then we drove out to a place called Beauty Point, where there is a place called Sea Horse World. I know what you're thinking but to our surprise it didn't QUITE compare to a Disney park. Jenn is obssessed with sea horses, but unfourtunately we got there literally five minutes too late. But the good news is that David and I snuck in anyway and took pictures. Apparently a sea horse dies or something when you take a picture but i'm pretty sure I didnt kill them all.
Then we took a short stroll on Greens Beach, here we took our first stepts into Australian water.
That night we headed to a town called Low Head hoping to see some penguins. We were too early for the tour so we headed into George Town for some chinese food. I ordered a 12 dollar steak, it was not good I had my favourite... chicken fried rice and honey-something chicken. Mine was great! Who would have guessed that a steak would be sub-par at a small chinese restaurant in Bumfuck Nowhere, Tasmania... I know we were just as shocked as you. oh yeah and the waitress was a white girl in a kamono... I rest my case. In a milk bar (convience store) after our meal we met the nicest Tassi ever, he spent about an hour with us after his store had closed giving us advice on what to see and what not to see in Tasmania.
That night we drove into a town called Birdport, laid out a blanket in the parking lot, grabbed the guitar and box or two of wine and had a blast behind their library. I mean you can't really beat a wine picnic under the stars. That night we slept in the car.
Tassie Day 3: We hiked up Mt William amongst a good amount of wildlife. Karen backed the car into a pole and scratched it (thank god for insurance).
We drove into a small town called St. Helens where we checked into a very nice hostle. Later we ate dinner at a place called Dohertys. Great food and huge dock patio seating that looks onto a lake. At the hostle we met a nice Jewish girl named Abby who lives in Melbourne. We got her email address and she is going to show us around the city a little at some point this week.
Tassie Day 4: We spent the majority of the day at Binalong Bay; probably the best beach I have ever been to. It was small and didnt have very many people on it, with the finest sand and bluest water you can imagine. This is where we had our first official australian swim. The water was freezing cold but the it was too beautiful to pass up a swim... needless to say there was a serious amount of shrinkage. We then burried Jenn in the sand and during a game of frisbee David put a bucket (big bucket) of sand down the back of Jenn's bathing suit and it looked like there was poo in there. I really wish we had a picture of that one... but we were laughing WAY too hard to get the camera!
From there we headed out to the Bay of Fires where we hiked over the really red rocks. Next we headed the Weldborough Pass where we took a short walk through the rainforest. Then we took a hike out to St. Columba, but the path was closed (warning: path may be unstable due to rain) so as sad as it was we took our pictures from a distance and continued to Ralph Falls. When we got there it was already starting to get a little dark so we took a short walk through some pretty creepy looking forest to see the falls. When we got to the falls there was an option to continue on, but Adam was afraid of the dark and thought that a snake might eat him (justifiable excuse i guess) so only Jenn and I went on and I'm glad we did cause it was amazing... foggy and a little dark, but amazing none-the-less. Adam got scared and impatient so he decided to continuously honk the horn (as if we could do anything from inside the forest) until we got back. Sometimes I wonder about that guy. Then we drove out to a town called Bicheno looking for a hostle, we found one but when we rang the number on the door no one answered. So we slept in the car outside the hostle. Incase you were wondering... car sleeping... not so comfortable.
Tassie Day 5: The hostle manager notices that we are in the parking lot and accuses us of sneaking into her hostle and trying to get off without paying. Then when David finally convinces her that we slept in the car she tries to charge us five dollars each if we want to use the bathroom. Thats pretty expensive just to pee and brush your teeth (yes Stacey I am brushing). We now officially call this woman the Bicheno Bitch. Adam wanted to call her 'That Woman Who Wasn't Very Nice To Us When We Were In Bicheno At That Hostel', but I thought this was a little more catchy.
Well we got up to day five, and now we are going to bed. Here is some pics for now and we will try to write about days six through eight tomorrow.
nice ride eh?
Having some trouble uploading more pics, so this is all for now. I will try to add more pics to this post later.

Adam, going to be my usual annoying english major self. You guys are staying at places called Hostels, not Hostles. Also, Sheera stalks you, not stocks you. just a note. in exchange for my english crit, I'll let you maul me on how I did my taxes... fair? Otherwise, awsome blog dude. I agree with that person who likes the double talking, its a cool effect, adds more comedy too. Its a shame I'm a terrible spendthrift and a wastrel... otherwise I might be there with ya. ah well. get some extra sun for me dude.
